Ever wake up moments before you have to run out the door and wish you had something to satiate your morning hunger pangs while on the way to work? We got you! This smoothie can be made the night before and stuck in the fridge, or made in a snap before you leave in the morning. We use frozen berries here to keep costs down and maintain freshness during the cold months, and while you see peanut butter below, all nut butters are welcome (we love almond and sunflower butters too!)
Blend all of the following ingredients:
- 1 medium sized banana
- 6 – 8 frozen strawberries
- Small handful of frozen blueberries (just eyeball it)
- 1 bunch of kale or spinach
- 1 1/2 cups unsweetened vanilla almond milk
- 1/2 – 1 scoop of vanilla egg white protein powder (or any protein powder you like)
- 1 tbs peanut butter/almond butter
The protein powder can be adjusted depending on your activity level for the day, so if you have a long workout ahead or you know you have a lot of time between meals and need to keep the energy up, bump up the amount and go for the full scoop. You can also beef up the recipe with some gluten-free rolled oats, chia seeds, or whatever your little heart desires!
This protein-packed smoothie can be prepared as a post workout snack too. We recommend if you drink it in the morning that you divide your ingredients the night before if you’re one of those time pinchers. Having the berries pre-mixed in a baggie along with your spinach or kale and ready to go is a huge time saver.
